      Computational Linguist Interview

      5 Mar 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Athens, Athens, Attica
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Omilia (Athens, Athens, Attica) in Apr 2019

      Interview

It was a long process including a skype call, an IKM test and an on site interview. Between stages there was a long period of notice, it took me 1 month and a half to have a response. Unfortunately, (although I had read about harassment incidents I could not expect this kind of attitude from professionals and experts), I received ironic comments during the interview, as if I was a useless girl who seeks job without qualifications. The interview went well during first minutes, but then the guy started asking me questions that I was not prepared at all. As an example, he kept asking me questions about unsupervised learning, with an ironic smile, while the guy next to him was asking him to stop because this position was not about unsupervised learning but only about supervised. After all, he asked me questions about rather deep knowledge in Probability theory, which maybe was into the concept, but indeed, the advertisement was asking knowledge about speech recognition. Sorry, but mathematics are no poem. One should work on them in depth in order to memorize things like these and truth, I was not prepared. I presented myself, throughout the beginning, as a junior developer, having just acquired my Masters. Finally, it didn't go well but the recruiter insisted I should give a try to another department, as I did. The review I took was bad, although I had achieved a high level in IKM test and at least a 85% of the expected results of the assignment. The cons of the review of my assignment were about lack of unit tests and things that any student could learn from University. As a result, I would say that it was a bad logic of the recruiter who believed that I could be in a mid level, although I had declared from the beginning the opposite. I was truly disappointed of the attitude of the head of RnD, as he has a great experience in computational linguistics with PhD and post docs around the world, but this guy is for sure a bad example of co-worker, full of arrogance. I imagine the comments about harassment indicate a general logic of the company. Last I expected about 10 to 15 days to get only a negative answer. Too much effort without specific evaluation, feeling, at the end, a face-control-like attitude, during the interview. Check their linked-in. Most of them look shaved, bright and beautiful... No further comments.
