I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at On Deck (CA) (Boston, MA) in Jul 2021
Interview
recruiter call, interview with team member, case study, interview with hiring manager, then call with HR for cultural fit interview. Each interview was between thirty minutes to an hour, with only the first recruiter call being not a video interview.
- quick 10 minutes
- seemed more of a vibe check
- clearly reviewed application
- asked questions about business but mostly seemed to be evaluating on the person rather than the ideas
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What makes you unique? Why do you want to join? What is your business idea and how did you come up with it?

Interview
Recruiter reached out to schedule interview. Link to schedule interview did not work. Selected a time. Recruiter did not show at all. Rescheduled. Recruiter showed up very late. Their video was off and I could barely hear them over the sound of cafe background noise. When asked about the kind of culture the company had, the recruiter gave me a runaround about how the ideal hire is a "team player" and "mission-oriented." When asked about comp, recruiter said that "we like people who take on more proactively." In other words, comp not great. I indicated that I was interested in proceeding, but frankly was not. Took days to receive the take home assignment and follow up. Before I had the chance to finish the take home, they reached out to share that they had 'gone with another candidate.' They tried to plug one of their fellowships. Overall negative experience.
