I spoke briefly with someone on the phone who asked some surface level questions, then I was given a programming test. I wasn't prepared by the interviewer for the programming test, other than being told it would take 2-3 hours to complete.
The programming test had vague requirements.
For someone who's never worked in the industry, I had to do a lot of research on how to answer it.I spent the better part of a day (8+ hours) between researching, writing code, tests, and documentation - all of which was required.
I was rejected because my code wasn't good enough. Fine. Maybe there were other reasons.
I think it's telling a company sets the expectation of 2-3 hours, then it takes a lot longer than that. To me, this company seems like they would give you a 2-week task and expect it complete in 3 days.
