      Robotics Software Engineer Interview

      24 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Parkopedia in Sept 2020

      Interview

Had a Teams call with an engineer from their HD maps department. Was quite a comfortable interview where I was asked about my experience I had on my CV as well as some technical questions. In the end my experience was not to a high enough level as I was unable to answer some of the questions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Parkopedia in Oct 2020

      Interview

I applied to Parkopedia through their website, after having seen the job opening on LinkedIn. They replied me the day after I submitted my CV, and we scheduled a first interview within the same week. The first interview was a 30min call lead by the head of the team and a Robotics Software Engineer of the team. We talked about my background and my motivation to apply for the job and then we proceeded to some technical questions regarding the topic that was the focus of the job (SLAM). I answered to the best of my knowledge/intuition, I had some knowledge gaps in the more modern SLAM methods (graph SLAM). The interview was extremely friendly. A couple of days later they contacted me again to proceed to the second interview, a 2h 30min call comprising a C++ coding problem and a discussion about SLAM. I prepared for the interview by going through the notes of an university course I had taken previously, and by following an online course. The coding problem was fairly easy and the discussion focused on how to optimize the solution/its time complexity and general software engineering principles. They never made me feel uncomfortable, even when I was going through some very weird thought process to come to the simple solution of the programming problem. The discussion about SLAM was calibrated on what one could know having followed some online course about it. After having assessed the knowledge of SLAM historical algorithms and modern approaches, the discussion focused on what would I do/try in different hypothetical SLAM scenarios. Again the interview was super friendly. It was clear that the aim was not to catch me off guards but to understand how I would tackle the problems/reason about them. I was contacted a couple of days later to schedule a third interview with the CEO of the company and the Head of Operations. They were both super friendly, they presented the company (history, mission and goals) and we talked about my motivation and expectation about the job. I then received a job offer and accepted it.
