      Front End Developer Interview

      29 Jul 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Petasense (Bengaluru) in Jul 2017

      Interview

FAKE! They conducted a FAKE interview to get their module created. The interview process went for more than 3 weeks and I had to travel from Hyderabad to Bangalore for the last round. Even after 5 rounds of interviews before, I spent the whole day there, doing several rounds of interviews Then I was suddenly handed down a project that had little to do with checking the skills on Front end. It was on d3 charts that they were using and basically sent me the entire mockup of their web solution created by their UX designer. It was a very big project with 2 modules and they asked me to complete within a week or two if possible. I completed it within 4 days and sent them the link. They asked for further changes saying that they are impressed but would like some changes to be made. I did that and submitted it. After that, I didn't hear from them for days. I called them several times after which I received a mail that I was not selected because the project was not good enough. I checked on their site after that and couldn't find any job opening for front end developer posted. There were postings only for backend developer opening. I was scammed to create their project for free. AVOID this company. I never thought that even Silicon Valley entrepreneurs can stoop so low.

Thanks for your review. We are truly disappointed with your feedback and wish you the best in your job search. That being said, this review makes claims that are simply not true. We never posted a front-end developer on our website, but that does not mean that we do not have a requirement. In fact, if someone considers themselves to be a great front-end developer, please contact us. You can experience the fairness of our process. In this particular case, the candidate was referred to us by a recruitment agency. We did not use this engineer's code at all. We concluded that it simply did not meet our standards. To actually think that this project’s code could be used as part of our codebase in production demonstrates this candidate’s lack of awareness of what writing production quality code entails. While this engineer looked promising during the initial round of interviews, an important part of our assessment is a real project which is a bare-bones simplified version of an already developed portion of our product. This helps both parties - us and the candidates. It helps the candidate really understand the nature of the work they are going to be doing. We get to see how different candidates approach this problem and compare their code against the best engineers we have hired. We also want to find out if they can quickly learn new frameworks or technologies that they might not have been exposed to in the past. In fact, in this case, we were able to determine that the candidate’s code would not meet our requirements for quality, design, and scalability. We also learned that the candidate was not willing to go the extra mile to quickly learn a few new tools. We are a high growth startup that’s on a mission to bring change using IoT and machine learning. We take pride in the quality and not the quantity of candidates at our company. We ensure that every person who joins us is highly vetted both technically and culturally. Few other clarifications * We always try to communicate our decisions promptly. In this case, our final decision was communicated to in less than 72 hours after final submission * The total interview process was completed in 16 days of which the candidate had requested a 4-day gap in between. That’s very fast by any standards!
