Was shocked and dismayed to be asked inappropriate, discriminatory questions in my interview. As legal advocates, all are equal before the law and our duty is to treat them as such and choose clients on the basis of their legal claim, not their lifestyles - such an unethical basis on which to choose who to represent. Was further shocked that when asking what work-life balance looked like was responded to with a lecture about needing to be committed to my work and that this firm would not be an “easy job.” So many red flags with this group.

The interview was at 9. At 11, I’m still sitting in the lobby. They finally call me in, and there is religious memorabilia (crosses, pictures of Jesus) everywhere. The named partner comes in and starts asking me questions. Asks me about whether I am married or planning to have kids and what does my partner think of me working. Asks me about my religion and what church I go to. He leaves for 30 minutes. When he comes back, he says he wants his wife, who is also an attorney at the firm, to meet me and asks me to drive across town to Costco to meet her. I go to Costco. His wife asks me all about Christianity and if I do “mission work.” Finally she offers me the job on the spot. Not even thirty minutes after I leave, the named partner calls me and tells me that his wife got ahead of herself and he’s not sure about me and goes on and on for like ten minutes about my “character” then asks me to come back into the office again in two days for another interview with him and his wife together. I declined.
