      Research Scientist Interview

      20 Mar 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Precision AQ in Mar 2020

      Interview

Poor communication and highly disorganized! After being recruited as a candidate by an employee, I had a 20 minute introductory phone conversation with the HR manager. The next step, a month later, was a half hour phone interview with the hiring manager. Nothing too difficult, basic questions about research background. A couple weeks after that I was given a technical assessment consisting of math and simulation coding. The time allotted was short, and the HR lady sent me the exam an hour late. It was not too difficult, and I was able to answer every question. After over a month of waiting, they notified me that I progressed to the next round. This round consisted of a series of 4 different 30 minute interviews with different people in the company. The coordination was chaos, first they wanted to fly me out, then they wanted me to skype. The HR lady booked the wrong times, and we only narrowly avoided a catastrophe. These interviews were short and behavioral; there was nothing challenging or pressing to really test a candidate. This was supposed to be the final round and with a decision in 1-2 weeks. It took almost 2 months to get a final response. HR and hiring manager kept giving me the run around, claiming that they still had to interview. Finally I emailed someone else in the company. He let me know that they were already negotiating with other candidates, apparently they had dragged me out to the end as an alternate! And the company did NOT let me know until 2 weeks after I found out! Overall the process took OVER 4 months. The communication was horrible. The interview process was weak, NONE of my interviews were substantial. My guess is they liked my technical background, but really wanted a public health policy person. Still they should have been forthcoming. Overall, miserably disorganized; if you apply here, make SURE to have secondary options.
