Initially contacted by recruiter, then had phone screen with basic questions about my experience. Brought on-site for interview with hiring manager. Casual, low-pressure interview in which we talked about my background and the expectations of the role. Had a tour of the office and panel shop, then a “test” before I left which was interpreting a very basic electrical diagram and PLC program. Hiring manager told me he wanted to extend an offer after seeing my performance on the test. I was feeling good about the job, impressed with the facility and the work they were doing, and feeling it would be a good fit. Offer came in very low compared to my salary expectation and they wouldn’t budge. Would warn any automation engineer who applies, make sure you get a solid salary range out of them before proceeding with the interview to save yourself some time. The salary is fairly low compared to the market rate, and they insisted they have some sort of scale they MUST pay employees, which my expectations did not fit into, regardless of my skills as an engineer which were demonstrated during the interview.
