I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Tampa, FL) in Jun 2012
Interview
applied online in early May, was emailed the next day to complete a online assestment, after that you get a email informing you if you passed or not, I passed and was informed a recruiter will be in touch ina day or so. within a few hours I was contacted to set up a phone interview. They noticed I was out of state and said I would need to come to the Progressive office for a face to face interview at my own expense no exceptions. I declined at that point. About 3 weeks later I noticed a Senior level position posted so I called the recruiter back to see if I could be considered fo rthis role and if I have to fly down there still. I got another recruiter who was more udnerstanding to the fact that paying $400 for a ticket for a interview that may or may not lead into a psoition is crazy. She said she was going to ask the hiring managers to see if they will make the exceptions if i pass the phone interview. The phone interview they reviewed your resume and asked you 7-10 STAR based questions " tell me about a time". I was informed 2 weeks laters the managers made the exception and will do a phone interview which was scheduled for 2 hours on the phone. All the manager did was ask STAR based questions the recruiter asked about 10-18 during the whole 2 hours which I thought was out of this world crazy. Then I recieved a call 2 days ago saying I was not select because they thought I didnt give the best answers to the STAR questions and next time I apply I should study more on them,

Very impersonal and did not get to speak to someone in person everything was video recorded. It took a long time for them to finally decline my video interview. That's it

The interview process is pretty strenuous. You do have an assessment that you have to take. Before you get the in person interview. After you do the assessment you do have virtual star question method questions that you have to answer. If you don’t do well with that you won’t get the final interview with the recruiter or hiring person. Definitely study STAR questions. They’re kinda hard. And then the final interview they do ask you a few star questions as well. You can use the ones from your virtual interview. It was really easy-going though. I did appreciate how easy the conversation was for the final interview.
