      Commercial Claims Adjuster Interview

      26 Nov 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Vestal, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Vestal, NY) in Nov 2021

      Interview

I studied the heck out of all the interview questions/timelines/tips from here, and I made a note that I would come back and offer up my own experience for other people once I was through the process. Here’s a quick snapshot timeline of the entire process: 11/3/21- Applied for position on company website 11/4/21- Got an email to take the online assessment, I took it the same day 11/4/21- Got an invitation to take the Hirevue video interview within 7 days 11/4/21- Took the Hirevue video interview that same evening 11/5/21- Got an invitation to schedule a video interview with a hiring manager; scheduled it that day. The only available slots were super far out; I booked the soonest one for 11/16. 11/16/21- Video interview with manager; told me it would take 2-3 weeks to hear back 11/21/21- My application status changed to a different state automatically on job status site (it’s remote either way) 11/26/21- Got a phone call with them making an offer :) I’ll be calling them back to accept shortly. Specific Details: Assessment: I thought it was very easy. It was basic math and a simulation portion. Straightforward; just make sure you can hear the audio. Hirevue: This was SO AWKWARD lolll. I wasn’t even sure if they were going to move forward with me because I thought I did iffy on this portion. I studied other people’s interview questions and wrote down STAR answers for 2-3 hours before I actually did it. I think doing it the same day helped SO MUCH in streamlining me as a candidate; I would not recommend taking the full 7 days to submit it. In regards to the actual interview, they had very long questions, you’d have (I think) 30 seconds to prepare, and then you could record a three minute video response. You would have two attempts. There was a few I fudged up the first time, and then I would use the remainder of the video minutes to prepare a better response. Typically, though, I would try to do a one and done so I was more relaxed. The few I had to do on the second try were a bit strained because I knew I couldn’t re-record. Manager Interview: I had a lot of time to prep for this one, but honestly, I did most prep the day before to be in the zone. Everyone on here stresses the STAR format, and that is definitely true, but at the end of the day me and the hiring manager just had a genuinely good conversation. He asked 3-5 formal STAR questions, but the bulk of our interview was just getting to know me. We really hit it off! He was awesome. Make sure you come with questions to ask at the end. He talked about how much he could tell I prepared, which helped me a ton. It seems like they have LOTS of people interviewing at a given time (he said he interviewed 40 people this week for the job) and preparation/confidence is what’s going to set you apart. Offer: I didn’t counter it, since its a trainee position. They gave me a start date about a month out. The lady who made the offer was so sweet and nice!! Overall, Progressive gives off really solid vibes. The process is lengthy and detailed, but I think they just really care about bringing on positive and good people for the roles. I’m super grateful to be starting with them!
