      Claims Adjuster Trainee Interview

      27 Oct 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tampa, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Tampa, FL) in Oct 2015

      Interview

The whole process took entirely too long and took up too much of my time. Detailed online application, online assessment test, phone interview, background check (with additional request "tasks" for more personal data after the original submission), and finally an in-person interview -- which consisted of a panel of three Managers asking me S.T.A.R. behavioral questions. I was notified I did not get the position one week after the in-person interview. The feedback given to me was that while I had very good communication skills, my answers "were not specific enough". Well, apparently they were specific enough to get me past the phone interview. Objectively, I feel I did very well at the in-person interview -- but obviously there was something they did not like. Perhaps I was not rehearsed enough with what seems to be important to them -- canned, automaton answers. Realistically, I am very qualified for this position and have always been quite a diligent, engaged employee. I can make the argument in good conscience that they would have been fortunate to have me on their team. Having said that, I am not convinced that I would taken the job anyway, had it been offered. Perhaps yes - - perhaps no. On the positive side, everyone was very pleasant and forthright. They may not have had sophisticated interview skills and/or the best professional judgment -- but they did it politely and with reasonable efficiency! One more comment -- there is no need to do a background check on someone who has not yet been offered employment or conditional employment -- and I would argue that this practice may be borderline illegal, or at the very least an unnecessary violation of personal information -- as well as a waste of time.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Allentown, PA) in May 2026

      Interview

The interview process is extensive, there are several levels after applying for the position. Initially there are several questions to answer followed by a video interview with Behavioral questions to be answered in their STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result) followed by the following interview with an actual manager. This interview was also answering additional behavioral questions in the STAR format and answering several other questions. After all was said and done. I received an e-mail informing me they went a different direction.
