Interview
The hiring process involves an in-person application at a kiosk located in every store -- this is the only way to apply. The interview typically takes place between you, the assistant store manager, and the manager of the department you're interviewing for. YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO A DRUG TEST ON THE SPOT if you are hired -- it's a saliva swab test that you'll take while supervised. So many applicants fail to land a job at Publix because of this test that it's ridiculous.

They ask all the typical job interview questions. Doing a little research about the culture of the company will help you IMMENSELY in the interview. It shows initiative and makes you seem like you're a good fit. Read about the company's history, especially the philosophy of its founder, George Jenkins. TRUST me on this. The managers will read all the questions directly out of a hiring manual, so it's pretty dull and literally by-the-book. You'll even get the stereotypical "What do you think your greatest weakness is?" question.
Behavioral Interview with questions on how you would behave in a team environment, and stressful or otherwise adverse conditions. They will also analyze how you align with the company's value system.

Tell me about a time when you had a conflict with a co-worker.
Manager wanting to hear about you, your skills and basic knowledge. Showing respect and enthusiasm. Basic, getting to know the company, a friendly environment and the challenges it may come with.
It was a hiring event so about ten people were doing interviews all at once. They had several store managers doing the interviews. I had a district manager interview me.
