      Strategy Role Interview

      29 Dec 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rain43 (Toronto, ON) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Meeting with HR manager, who was completely disorganized and she spent a huge amount of time constantly trying to ask me questions about my current company so that she could attempt to poach people. Also, she spent way too much time bashing the corporate world and talking about all the reasons why she was above it (Seriously? Not interested). I then connected with the two of the hiring managers, one seemed nice (but again spent way too much time insulting the corporate world) and the other seemed really lofty. What really caused me to see red flags was the two hiring managers saying that there is no formal HR feedback process and so its given as the company needs change and evolve (that shows me that corporate planning is lacking), the other was meeting an employee downstairs on the way out (will keep identity gender neutral since the company is so small), who outright warned me about working at the company, the salary and career progression is lacking, mentorship and guidance from managers is nonexistent and company morale is at an all time low. Feel like a dogged a bullet.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy the interview process with us. It’s difficult to build a one-size-fits-all process that works for your company/culture, as well as the preferences of a wide variety of candidates, but we’ll keep trying. We regret that there may have been some miscommunication and we’d love to clarify a few things. As we work at an independent shop we don’t ‘bash’ others, but we do discuss the differences between large and boutique agencies. Most candidates who choose to interview with us share our preference - you didn’t and we respect that, so we will incorporate this feedback so others don’t feel similarly. We do have a three-part HR feedback plan including weekly surveys, happiness surveys, and an anonymous online portal that is available to employees 24/7. Our coaching and managing program is one of our most important programs: we invested in a software system and manager training, and everyone develops a formalized career plan. In fact we’ve promoted 8 Rainmakers so far in 2017! We aren’t perfect, but all of the feedback from these programs, and our very low turnover rates, indicate morale is simply not at an all time low. It’s a shame you got that impression somehow; we hope you’ve found a place that suits you and wish you all the best.
