      Customer Service Representative Interview

      25 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at RealSelf (Seattle, WA) in Oct 2017

      Interview

The interview process was quite long. I had 3 phone interviews with 3 different people and then an in-person interview, which took 2 hours and was done by 4 or 5 people. This company seems amazing and I genuinely wanted to work here. However, after talking to 2 or 3 different people, I basically already knew they weren't going to hire me. They continued to tell me that I seemed, for a lack of better words, "too above entry level" and that I may get bored with the repetitiveness. While I appreciated the compliment and honesty, I was interviewing for a reason. My background and skills is, what I imagine, got me the interview in the first place. If you're wanting 18 year olds who are new to CS and don't have much experience, then please advertise that. Now, I can't say for sure whether they didn't select me based off of my extensive background. They do have you do a personality test to see if you'd fit in well with their team. However, in the end after not getting the job, it did seem like a waste of time for both themselves and I being that from the start, they continued to tell me how it may be too entry level for me and I would be bored. My advice to recruiting and who I met with (who I genuinely felt would be awesome people to work with, especially 3 of the women I met with in person) would be to really think about what type of person you're looking for and if someone is "overly qualified" then to not waste their time or yours. Again, I can't say if this was the reason I wasn't selected, but then that also brings me to my next point. It can be very discouraging when multiple people continue to make it sound like you're not going to get hired, based on your extensive background. By the time I heard it for the 3rd time, I thought to myself, "Why am I here...? Doesn't sound like they think I'm a good fit at all." I really wished I was, and I hope I can find a position within RealSelf again that maybe will match up better with my background. Again, seems like an awesome company to work for and has so many values that I wholeheartedly support, such as the charity work they do. Good luck to anyone who interviews! I can't guarantee you'll love it, but I know I would have.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

General interview questions were asked, such as why I wanted to work for RealSelf. Other interesting questions that made it a bit more person (yet fun) were: What book would you recommend and why; What is your favorite tech start-up company; and if you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Thank you for your kind words about RealSelf and your thoughtful feedback. One of the challenges of a fast growing company is keeping the process tight and interviewers trained to be sure we are creating a top notch candidate experience. We will continue to work on all of this and use your feedback wisely. We hope you give us another shot if you see a role that fits your background and interest. - Director of Employee Experience

      Interview

Phone call with hiring manager, then you advance to phone call with hiring manager and department manager. Felt like they quickly eliminated me, even though I have a degree and it wasn't necessary.

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at RealSelf (Seattle, WA) in Jul 2019

      Interview

2 phone screens and an on-site loop. Phone screens were pretty standard getting to know you/background. The on-site loop was pretty standard 30 min intervals of meeting different people on the team. The whole process was standard. The only thing I didn’t like was that each interviewer in the in-person meeting didn’t leave me time for questions. And I’d ask a question at the end and they’d quickly answer and then say the next person was ready. In loops I’ve had previous interviewers know to leave at least 5-10 mins at the end for questions. Overall it was an ok experience

Thank you for taking the time to interview with us and for your helpful feedback! We try our best to ensure that we allow plenty of time for you to ask questions, but seemed to have missed the mark in your experience. Again, thank you for the feedback. We will work harder to better structure interview times to allow for more questions.
