There was something fishy about their hiring process from the start!
I have a great background in both sales management and call center mamagement. and paid my dues, working as an hourly sales person 20 years ago.
When I first saw the job description,for a sales manager, I immediately knew that this was a job I could do well. I applied online and received a phone call within a few days, passed the initial screening and was invited to interview just a few days later. That's where things got very strange.....
I was led into a small room and the HR person came in to brief me on how the process would go.
Apparantly there would be a few different people rotating every 30 minutes, to interview me.
But the HR person seemed uncomfortable .....and told me that she had "just received word, minutes before I arrived".... that the Sales Manager position was in a state of uncertainty...and might not be filled at all....and might even get outsourced. In a long, drawn out manner, asked if I would
"consider accepting an hourly sales job" instead...and then babbled about how Red Ventures, prefers to "promote from within".
I was taken aback...and told her that since I had already arrived, I still wanted to interview, in case the sales manager job did materialize.
Over the next 3 hours, various "sales supervisors" and "managers" came to interview me.
None of them seemed to have sales saavy or energy and the questions were all about working on the phone as an hourly sales agent! Something was fishy! One of the supervisors handed me his water bottle and said "sell this bottle of water to me". When I asked each interviewer WHICH job they
thought I was interviewing for, all of them gave that same used car salesman look of surprise ....and mumbled about how they"typically promote from within"......and asked me if I had a "problem" with taking the hourly sales job on a shift?
No one there looked particularly happy with their jobs....and one of the supervisors let me walk though the call center and I didn't see a single person who looked to be over 40! No one was honest about the salary.....and I didn't see a "fun, rewarding, most desirable place to work".
I wasn't even home yet, when my cell rang and it was the HR person, telling me that they were
"very sorry, but they went with another candidate". Another candidate? I immediatley asked, " why all the drama, claiming that they might not fil the position, etc? So now, two hours later, they DID fill it?
Two things dawned on me....age and deceipt. Red Ventures doesn't want someone in their 40's or 50's....but they might occasionally "have to sprinkle" a few in, to keep up with EEO discrimination laws.
Bottom line is that they posted a management job, in order to attract a higher talent pool....only to try and convince them to take hourly sales jobs?
6 weeks later the sales manager job was STILL posted, so I sent an e-mail to the HR person and asked if that job was really being recruited for...or if they were just trying to recruit for hourly phone sales jobs? I also followed it up with a phone call....and you guessed it...NO reply!
