I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Rev in May 2019
Interview
It was all online. You read their instructions, watched a video and then proceeded to do a test captioning assignment.
I had never done captioning before, but they didn't list this as an obstacle. Yet, even though I had no experience, they turned me down without giving specific reasons. "We are only able to approve freelancers who demonstrate the highest captioning standards." But I had never done it before!
In any case, I feel like I dodged a bullet, since most reviews here say the pay is awful. I was only looking for some extra income. The work is tedious, so if you don't get paid well, it doesn't really seem worth it. NEXT!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Nothing. They asked nothing about my experience, who I am, etc.
I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Rev
Interview
The application was submitted online and comprised of a two-part grammar and simulation test. It was very lengthy and time consuming with no prior indication of the time required in the initial instructions. After completing the first part of the application, you were asked to review two guides and a how-to video. Needless to say, after all of the time spent applying, I received a very vague email stating that I didn't meet their standards.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Rev (Lehigh Acres, FL) in Dec 2018
Interview
This is/was an independent contractor position. The selection process consisted of a short grammar and language test, plus captioning a 90 sec. video. They provided a style guide for convenience. The company's "Dash" software is integrated into web browsers. Once initial application is reveiewed, an invitation was sent to complete a second and third test video. Communication and review of application occurred quickly (4-6 hours). Jobs were sent to me soon after I passed the second test. The test was not tricky, but required adherence to their style guide, strong language and some technical skills (typing/media).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How to punctuate a group of sentences and demonstration of my verbiage skills. (10-20 Q's.)
I applied online. I interviewed at Rev in Sept 2018
Interview
Watch a video that details how to caption videos, then you caption one yourself. If you do a good job, you're moved on to the next round and asked to complete the captions for two different videos. You do have a deadline to complete these videos.
I emailed Rev four times about my Dash editor (the captioning software they use) not working for the final video and continued to receive an automated response from them. Thus, I was unable to complete my final video and be considered as a viable applicant.
Overall, I think I would've enjoyed doing this part-time. Unfortunate they can't get their tool working correctly; they're missing out on great talent.
