Instead of interviewing with an HR representative, I interviewed with the Director of the department I was applying to be a part of. I found this quite refreshing, as more than often HR reps are unable to provide answers to interviewee questions that are specific to the role, projects, or the team environment. This provided a more specific insight into what the role would be and provided a clear communication of role expectations.
This process also provided the opportunity to meet my team / supervisor, before accepting an offer. Which helped me to better evaluate fit and provided me with the chance to get to know my supervisor before making a decision.
