Go apply to work for these guys if you want to feel disposable, that you don't matter and be subject to power plays.
I applied for this position at RImini Street, spoke with the recruiter, the hiring manager (one VP) and two heads of client organizations (another VP and SVP). All these went extremely well. On a Friday I received an email from the recruiter that they want to move to the next stage and make me an offer. The following Monday I receive another mail from the recruiter, telling me that for the "final stage" there's another interview with the hiring manager's boss, another SVP, face to face in their office. I asked why the change of plan and received a meaningless mail about the hiring manager and her boss having talked, etc., with a smiley face thrown in, adding insult to injury.
Now in my book, nobody intervenes in a process to bless it. In most cases they do it to block it. This, indeed was the case here as well. I went to the meeting, without any word or guidance from the recruiter or hiring manager. Admittedly, I was apprehensive during the interview. But I did answer all the questions and we had what I thought was a reasonable discussion. In any case, Rimini Street disappeared after this. There was no further update, nor was there any response to mails.
I do not think that Rimini Street should have hired me, eventhough I am certain there's a lot of value I could have brought, a view shared by a number of their most senior people. However, they have no right to behave in this manner. It is uncivilized, condescending and offensive and no person should treat any other person this way.
Now, RImini Street may well know who I am based on this review and that's fine. Maybe they have an explanation to provide or an apology to offer.
