      Video Editor Interview

      26 Aug 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Riot Games (Los Angeles, CA)

      Interview

Applied online and received a call from a recruiter the next day. Although I understand the desire to find the "just right" candidate for their company and culture, I feel like their interview process is excessively lengthy and demands a time commitment from a candidate that isn't very reasonable, especially given that the chances are very good that after several interviews, you will be told it was "very close," but that they were moving forward with someone else. The interviewers DO ask good and challenging questions that grill your knowledge and experience in your field, so they're doing their due diligence and I can appreciate that. If your knowledge and experience is genuine, the interview isn't terribly difficult and fairly conversational. If you're trying to pass yourself off as something you're not, they will know very quickly. That seems a universal comment, among people who have interviewed with Riot. After three different interviews, I was told by the recruiter that the decision not to proceed was "very close" and boiled down to what sounded like personal preference on the part of one interviewer. They said though it was a difficult decision, they'd decided to move forward with another candidate...but encouraged me to apply for any future listings, because they liked me. A few weeks later, the job listing was being spammed on the job boards again (and still is)...and neither the recruiters, nor the interviewers, will respond to my attempts to contact them about taking another look at my candidacy. A response would be professional...ignoring someone you considered a strong candidate, not so much. In the end, I'm left with the feeling that it's probably for the best.

Thanks for sharing your interview experience - each review helps candidates understand what the interview process is like at Riot, and helps us identify where we can do better. The editor role you interviewed for has been filled, and I apologize for not pulling the posting down sooner to avoid confusion. The Esports team does have an open role for an editor, and I’m happy to check in with the team if you’re still interested. Please feel free to reach out to me directly (loreilly@riotgames.com) if you have any additional questions or want to talk further. Sorry, again, for the confusion! Thanks, Laura O’Reilly, Recruiter
