I applied online. I interviewed at River Island (Sunderland, North East England, England) in Aug 2017
Interview
Applied online, got an email straight away to book an appointment for a recruitment event. There were around 8 of us there and we all sat around a table with 2 River Island managers. We started off with an ice breaker, going around the room and telling everyone a little bit about yourself. We then got to do a few activities, we teamed up in 2's and the first activity involved a piece of paper and writing down reasons to work for River Island / why RI? We then had to go around the room taking it in turns to tell everyone what we had written down. The second activity was fun. We were given a big pile of magazines and in our teams, we were told to choose a celebrity in the magazine, an occasion, and find something for them to wear for that occasion and why. After that they spoke a little bit about the store and that was it. The recruitment event lasted no longer than an hour. (Have a few questions prepared to ask, they like them)
I applied online. I interviewed at River Island (Birmingham, England) in Mar 2026
Interview
Group interview of around 15. First task was saying your name a bit about you out loud, just general information it seems like name age what you do. Then the second task was writing down good customer service and bad customer service in your little group and reading it out to the group. During this, they are checking to see what you say, but try not to talk over anyone but definitely stand out. The second task was getting clothes from the shop floor presenting your outfit and explaining your choice. I don’t believe they cared too much about your previous experience but rather your personality.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. Introduce yourself
2. What’s is good/bad customer service
3. Go to the shop floor and pick out an outfit and present your choice
Fine, questions not always relevant but seems like a personality test I suppose. Nice enough interview in general. Quite quick interview, didn’t end up getting the job though , oh well
