      Principal Software Engineer Interview

      23 Jan 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Roblox in Oct 2022

      Interview

My interview took around 5 months to complete although some of it was because it went over new year's holidays and other part because of my schedule. Overall, I had 8 interviews as follows: 1. Once coding questions with a medium LC question which I solved rather quickly and a follow up which I also managed to solve. Note that the coding was in an actual compiler and I had to write a runnable code with test cases that passed (not just a text doc). 45mins 2. A couple of weeks later, I had my main day of interview which consisted of 1 System design, 1 ML, 1 Product, and Hiring Manager interviews. The last 2 were more on behavioral and experience side while first 2 were technical interviews. Each was 45 mins except product one was 15 mins. 3. I had an executive interview with a director and an interview called bar raiser with another principal engineer about creativity (something like a system design but big picture) and drive (regarding past experiences). 4. Final interview with a VP that again was behavioral and about past experiences matching company values.

      Question 1

I cannot remember exactly but the coding questions was about finding a word out of a series of characters.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Roblox in May 2026

      Interview

The recruiter I worked with Nate Leslie. He was polite in the phone calls but the follow-ups and conversations were very poor. Lot of thrashing in emails and correspondance. Long period of silence and sudden follow ups with fast requests to interview quickly. There were time that the onsite required me to be in the office and then that was changed. The director level interview was nothing like what the recruiter said it was. He was completely wrong. NO follow up after the interview when results were not good or any feedback or suggestions. I did close to 6-7 rounds of interviews. How about a 15 min phone call to tell me what happened and why Roblox did not go with me?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

-> Deep dive on Ads Project -> Director level was very strong behavioral mapped to company culture. -> Technical was multi-round engineering on directory folder to a LRU cache. -> Coding question got more difficult with each round including multi-threading.

      Interview

So I got an email for interview from Roblox with a recruiter. The recruiter was 5 minutes late to the meeting. But additionally, he got the wrong person to invite to the interview. He should not invite me but another person. When in the interview, the recruiter showed that he should have sent invitation to another person, because the work experience and email he mentioned are not mine. All of this was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful to candidate.
