I applied online. I interviewed at Rockefeller University (Ann Arbor, MI) in Mar 2019
Interview
The interview process was very clear cut. I was invited to a first round interview where they asked simple questions like what my research interests were and to describe my lab and class experience in these areas. They were also very receptive with questions I had about the program in general. However, just note, they are more interested in you showing knowledge of the bigger picture beyond the experiment, the 'why are you doing this experiment' , and 'what is this experiment doing for the project as a whole', than hearing you list a bunch of processes you can do in the lab.
Very simple, one interview with HR, second interview with hiring manager. Then waited for 1 month and received the offer letter. The HR person first came to college to talk about the University

This is a very professional and organized interview. First HR interview and then lab will reach out. Easy application and follow up steps. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get into research.

Interview with HR initially. If all goes well, they give a form to fill out where you select particular labs you are interested in. Hiring manager from a particular lab reaches out for an interview.
