I was contacted by an internal recruiter at Root for an Accountant opening. Once things were organized, I had a phone interview with the lead finance accountant. The job posting was asking for a bachelors degree in accounting with 1+ years of experience, which I have. With that being said, I was very surprised to hear they were looking for a CPA with 5+ years of experience. Not only was this discouraging since what they were looking for didn't line up with the job posting at all, but it seems that the woman interviewing me didn't even look at my resume since she didn't know my experience or that I was still going to school for my master's degree online.
I don't think it would be a terrible company to work for, but you need to be more clear on what you're looking for. Don't forget, Root is a new company with a short reputation. You need to be willing to look for some less experienced people fresh out of school for lower-level positions. Don't turn into one of those companies that looks for 30 year-old CPA's with 20 years of experience willing to work for $15/hr.
