A recruiter (Sam) reached out to me regarding a position and I was very interested. He said, if for some reason this one isn't a match, there were multiple openings within that company on different teams, so I would fit in somewhere. We communicated regularly for about 3 weeks, then I had an interview with the Stand 8 director (Scott). As I sat there waiting on Teams, I got a text saying due to technical difficulty it was going to be rescheduled for the following week. (Like you didn't know that prior to the start of the interview?)
The questions were broad and lacking depth, although I tried to provide STAR examples and explain my experience. My resume and certifications should speak volumes, but it seemed like that was minimized or not believed. I feel like he was looking for some specific answer, without asking a specific question. There were no standardized types of tests or anything regarding personality.
Just a few broad open-ended questions. Not the best way to evaluate a candidate.
He told me someone would get back with me to schedule an interview with the hiring manager and I promptly sent a thank you email to him and copied the recruiter. I never heard back from either one of them, despite sending several follow up messages, so it appears that I've been ghosted.
Investing time into tailoring your resume, writing a custom cover letter, and participating in 2 interviews just to be ghosted says something. I should have realized that by the poor response time of the recruiter over those weeks and the last minute canceled interview with the director, in addition to him being late to our next interview were the red flags.
It's the type of company that ensnares you with hope and keeps dangling the carrot, only to blindside you in the end with being ghosted or discarded. Not bound by any sort of character or morals, because would it really be that difficult to reply to an email and say they decided not to move forward? Lack of consideration, laziness, or both. Definitely a big waste of time and a month of being hopeful.
