      Sales Development Representative Interview

      15 Apr 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Scandit (Boston, MA) in Mar 2017

      Interview

I actually applied for an Inside Sales Representative role, but the company wanted me for the SDR role since I didn't have direct closing experience and had a business development background. I had an initial Skype call planned a week in advance with the head of HR who works outside of the US. I got a call 10 min into the planned interview time that she was having trouble with Skype so it was conducted over the phone. Very friendly, simple interview. I expressed interest in closing sales and she knew I didn't want to simply be a SDR. She came back to me the following week saying they were now hiring for a SDR team lead role, so I would be leading the team as well to assist the VP of sales. I expressed interest in learning more and we hopped on another call, but this wasn't quite necessary. She basically went over what she told me in the email and we set up a call with the VP of sales. I ended up speaking to him and we had a good conversation for almost an hour. I was asked if I would want to move forward which would have involved a presentation to a team about their software. I declined to move forward only because their Boston office currently consists of less than 5 people in a rented/flexible office space and I was looking for more of a larger office environment.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Typical questions for a business development rep such as how many calls a day are you making, who are you reaching out to, what kind of opportunities are you creating, etc.

Thank you for your review and comments. We always try to find creative solutions to hiring challenges and see the potential in people. We are adding to our existing teams in all locations - Boston, San Francisco and Zurich all the time and are opening a new office in Warsaw, Poland too. I'm pleased to say we are 5+ now and growing in Boston, MA but it does remain a challenge finding quality (rather than quantity) people in that area of the East Coast. It is an intensive, candidate driven market at the moment with the sharp increase of FinTech start ups in the region. We hope that the Scandit solution and products, our people, values and the huge potential to be part of something amazing will attract the best of the Boston market for the player/coach Sales Development Rep position.
