      ER SCRIBE Interview

      16 Oct 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Houston, TX
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at ScribeAmerica (Houston, TX)

      Interview

Apply online, wait for an email. Basic face to face interview to check that you're somewhat competent/normal and have priorities relevant to scribing i.e. being a med/PA/nursing student with a brief test of your typing speed. Meet a regional manager for paperwork. Then you are given a training packet or are emailed one with terminology to study for an exam that will be given on your first classroom training. You will need to pass that with 100, classroom training lasts for 2 weeks for a few days per week. During that time you complete your drug test/vaccination etc. Final Exam is on the booklet material and classroom instruction. If you pass you move on to 5 days of floor training where you are shadowing a seasoned scribe as he/she works with the physician seeing patients in the ED. With each passing floor training you are given more responsibility until the 5th day you are basically working with the physician yourself and the senior scribe just occasionally checks/reviews your chart. Then you are on probation for 90 days.

      Interview

I applied for a medical scribe position with ScribeAmerica and completed several steps in the hiring process, including an application, typing assessment, and a virtual interview. The process is largely automated, with little to no opportunity to speak with a recruiter or ask questions before receiving an offer. After I received the offer, I learned that the role involved traveling between four different locations, which was not specified in the job description or application. As someone new to scribing and relying on public transportation, this raised concerns about consistency and reliability. Managing multiple locations with different routes and commute times seems like it could be challenging, even for someone with prior experience. I followed up via email to ask whether scheduling could be more consistent or primarily at one location, but I did not receive a response. Given the time and effort required to complete the hiring process, the lack of communication at that stage was disappointing. The pay rate was also quite low for the Boston area, especially considering the expectation to travel between multiple sites.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would this role help you reach your future career goals? What would you do if you and a coworker switched shifts and at the last minute you realize you couldn't actually work the shift? What would you do if the laptop you usually use for scribing was broken and it was time for your team was ready to start the first appointment of the day? What experience do you have working in a medical or hospital setting?
