Long, stressful and leaves a bad taste. After two phone screens I was told I'd be brought in for a face-to-face and to complete an "exercise". The day before my face-to-face, I was emailed a two hour task in preparation for a mock research interview I would conduct the next morning. I had to drop everything and write a discussion guide. Upon arriving at Sherwin-Williams' office the next day, I was met by a disaffected HR person and led to upstairs to where someone was sitting in a room, waiting for me to conduct the research interview.
The hiring manager, who I met briefly, was cold. I wasn't introduced to the two "colleagues" who would be observing me via remote cam. I was sat immediately with my interview subject and told to start the interview. I led the 30 minute interview, then was introduced to two people who peppered me with questions for 45 minutes. I took a short survey, then met the hiring manager, who walked me to the elevator and said, "thanks."
I really questioned what kind of culture encourages this process. Given that this job listing has been posted for several months, I can't help but wonder if they bring people in just to see how UX research is done. They don't have a researcher on staff.
