The interview spanned across 2 days. There was a "Zeroth Round" to filter out students early on through a technical quiz, consisting of basic questions from javascript, sql, java, c and other programming fundamentals. Though the MCQs were fairly easy, quiz completion time was a deciding factor. Then, Round 1 was a Technical Round which was a mix programming and answering. I was asked to solve 5 basic problems in the language of my choice - reversing a linked list, pattern printing, armstrong number, bubble sort(which I optimised using a isSorted flag variable for brownie points ;). Simultaneously, the interviewer asked me questions related to Node.js and JavaScript for the most part - is Node.js single threaded or multi-threaded, synchronous vs. asynchronous javascript, framework vs. library, what does .jsx mean, garbage collection in java. Then round 2 was a resume round where I connected with an interviewer over a zoom call. It went pretty smooth because as the name suggests, we had a thorough discussion of almost everything that was in my resume, especially the projects, the extra curricular activities, club involvement, etc. along with a brain teaser to assess my critical thinking abilities. The classic "There's a bulb in a room and there are 3 switches..."(and I'm really bad at these questions T_T So much so that I started discussing about Tungsten, photons, etc.). Anyway, I cleared this round by god's grace and I made it to the HR round. It was a long discussion revolving around a topic of my choice(I chose cinema because I love cinema) followed by some classic behavioural and scenario- based questions. I answered everything confidently and almost fluently + I asked a lot of questions of about Slate like what they're trying to solve, their rise, etc. Finally, there was sort of an eliminator round which was a mix of almost all the rounds - i was asked to write code and some sql queries, define REST APIs and good old garbage collection in java. And at last, we entered into a discussion about relocation and whether I'm really aligning to take Slate's offer. Again, I asked a lot of questions related to Slate's vision, the founding members, etc. and the interviewer was really patient enough to answer all of them despite a throat infection :) And that was basically my first interview experience and yes... I made it through!
