Initial contact was made to set up interview time. Their recruiting process is backwards in that they should be screening resumes through the hiring manager prior to making contact. It's a waste of time for the candidate to entertain a call that is ultimately going to lead nowhere. The hiring manager will know absolutely what they want/don't want and should communicate this prior to the recruiting process. That's the most efficient way of executing a candidate search. Additionally, make the qualifications clear to begin with. If you prefer a candidate that has financial industry experience then state that in the description.
