      Customer Success Manager Interview

      5 Aug 2024

      No offer
      Negative experience

I interviewed at Solsten in May 2024

      Interview

Bottom line: Don't interview here and/or do the take-home assessment if asked. They just want free labor. I'll start by saying, when I first received an email for an interview for their CSM position, I thought it was rather odd how it wasn't coming from a recruiter or talent manager themselves. Big red flag. The basic talking points such as salary, requirements, and overall compensation package were not discussed even though I asked for repeatedly to speak with a rep during the recruitment process. Every time I asked (during the first two rounds) I was told that someone would be reaching out to me during the next stage to provide those details. This never happened and I did not receive anything during the entire process. Made it to the third round of interviewing and was given a take-home assessment that they swore wouldn't take more than a few hours to finish. I had a bad feeling about the workload they were asking me to do without speaking to an official recruiter, considering it was so excessive, but wanted to remain positive. It ended up taking me 10 hours to complete and it asked very specific questions and customer success scenarios that were all over the place, it wasn’t quite clear on what I was being judged on. It quickly became apparent to me that the assessment was just a method for collecting free labor and information, and unfortunately, I fell for it. The presentation given was a 10/10 without question, and it was said on the call that “I hit it out of the park”. However, a few days later I received an absurd rejection email that said, “We believe you were a really strong candidate, however we're looking for stronger sales and expansion experience and we have had a truly high caliber of applicants.” Extremely unprofessional with multiple red flags because prior to the lengthy assessment, two initial screen calls were conducted and not once was sales experience brought up into our conversation. This requirement was not even discussed during the presentation or evaluated as an assessment question. It's not even emphasized on the website under the job description! Additionally, they clearly have no idea how LinkedIn works because the job posting had been up for over +9 months with only 38 total click applications during that time. Waste of time.

      Interview

I went through a few rounds of interviews with Solsten. All seemed friendly on the surface until they unprofessionally ghosted me halfway through the process without any feedback. From looking at their horrendously poor recent employee reviews in the last two weeks, it seems they helped me dodge a bullet at least!
