Stantec Civil Designer interview questions

Interview went well, super friendly. Got an offer extended 5 days later. The hiring manager told me to make sure it is the offer I want and encouraged me to negotiate. The offer was rescinded because of the 12% difference between their offer and mine. Apparently, negotiating anything more than what they are willing is frowned upon.
