      Junior Mechanical Engineer Interview

      1 Apr 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Stantec (Vancouver, BC) in Nov 2014

      Interview

The interview was with a project and department manager who wanted to skip the HR process. Part of the reason was because I obtained the interview from an employee referral. They said that HR would contact me later if they decided to hire me. The department manager liked to probe to understand why I was interested in the job and to make sure I was 100% interested in buildings engineering. He made it clear that mechanical engineering is very broad, and that if I chose to work in buildings, I would be starting from scratch if I attempted to move to a different industry and that a P.Eng. would not mean anything. The interview process after the initial interview was very long and a lot of time was wasted attempting to contact both the project and department manager about the status of my application.
