App Review Process 30 min. with a designer 5 min introductions 20 min critique 5 min questions you have for your interviewer Goal In this interview, you will lead a critique of a popular consumer product by thinking out loud and collaborating with your interviewer. We would like to get an understanding of your approach to developing and improving user experiences, how you think about product strategy, hone in on business objectives and user needs, and make tradeoffs. What we'll cover You'll critique a popular consumer product by thinking out loud and collaborating with your interviewer. First, briefly share your thoughts about the product at a high level, including: Product strategy — describe the purpose and value of the product to users and use cases beyond your own. Business objectives — compare the product to competitors (if applicable) and consider their business and revenue model. Then, for the majority of the interview, lead the critique: Choose 1 key user flow. Example flows could be: finding specific functionality searching for what you need viewing content through different views or filters stumbling upon useful features as you use a product more or as your needs become more complex upgrading from free to premium We want to hear how you think through: User experience (content, visual design, interaction design, motion) — observe and call out highlights, opportunities, and challenges within 1 key user flow. Tradeoffs — consider what the team building this product may have considered before arriving at the user experience you are critiquing. What trade-offs do you think the product team or designers may have made while creating this experience? How to prepare Plan to lead the critique portion of the interview; don’t wait for prompts from the interviewer. Keep an eye on time and try to avoid “analysis paralysis”. Don’t prepare and bring any artifacts or presentations. Or, Join the Zoom call via computer. Then, screen share via your mobile device using a Lightning-to-USB cable and Quicktime on your computer (instructions).
