A recruiter wrote me in LinkedIn, arranged a phone call. The call went well, we spoke for 30 mins about roles, compensation and myself. They were looking for a Java/C# backend engineer, however she also proposed to go through Python interview. I decided to try Python first, then Java/C#.
She sent me an email that there will be a CodeSignal assignment with 3 tasks for 1 hour. Instead, when I got the assignment, there were 2 tasks, 1 hour each. Nothing tricky or hard, however one of the tasks assumed a knowledge of `pandas` which I didn't expect, and which made me suspect that this was an assignment for a data engineering, analytics or data science role, but not for a backend.
I solved the tasks, and submitted them, got an email confirmation from CodeSignal. No reply for 4 days, and since there was nothing hard to check for so long, I decided to write the recruiter. Just in case.
Turned out, she didn't even know that I submitted it (obviously, she missed the notification), and replied "I'll forward it to developers".
5 days later I got a reply that they decided to move forward with another candidate.
No Java/C# section as agreed before, no nothing else.
I did it so bad? Seriously?..
