      Assistant Manager Interview

      14 Mar 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Swarovski (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

After submitting an application for a Store Manager position, I was contacted fairly quickly by the District Manager to set up an interview. By the end of the interview, I was told that it would be better if I started out as an Assistant Manager, as I didn't have quite the experience he wanted (though I have several years experience in specialty retail, including fine jewelry, and in management). I agreed though, since it can be better to come into a new company as an Assistant so you can learn the ropes from someone else first. He then told me to brush up on fashion, and read some fashion magazines before the next interview. I left feeling a little insulted. The second interview was with a Store Manager, and went very well (or so I thought). Two weeks later I hadn't heard anything, so I called the store. The manager apologized, saying she'd been busy planning a store event, and then she invited me to the event. Of course I went, though the entire time wasn't sure what I should do. I ended up wandering around the store browsing merchandise and occasionally chatting with other attendees, and then left. At the end of the night I was told by both the DM and SM that they would have a decision for me within a few days. Two weeks later, I hadn't heard anything, so I sent the SM an email. It's now 2.5 weeks after sending the email, and I still haven't heard anything. The overall interview process for Swarovski was okay until the end. I find it highly unprofessional to not contact an interviewee with the final decision, even if it's not good for the interviewee. When I was a manager, I always made sure my interviewees knew the result, so they could move on with their job search. I am highly disappointed in the professionalism (or lack of) of this company, and it has greatly impacted my view of them.

      Application

      Interview

It seems like the person interviewing me has no experience in hiring processes. Asked me two pre-written company questions which I replied on. The person not directly but thrown a shade on their current manager which seemed off. Every time I shared something from my experience they seemed jealous of it correcting me straight away that this is what they're doing in their role so it wouldn't be part of my role.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sydney
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Swarovski (Sydney) in Apr 2025

      Interview

Applied online. Was contacted for an interview by email rather quickly. Interview was just 10mins. A lot of questions started with "Tell me about a time when..." There were around 10 questions including availability confirming that I was looking for full-time as ASM is required to be. 4 days later I received a rejection email from the store manager. I emailed back asking for feedback and she basically told me the main reason I wasn't selected is because I didn't have retail experience. But that I came across as really professional.
