I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Syndio in Oct 2024
Interview
Applied for a senior backend role, and HR reached out to me within a couple of days.
1st round: HR interview with the usual questions about salary expectations, etc.
2nd round: Hiring manager interview with behavioral-style questions.
3rd round: Take-home assignment. The first assignment required using Python libraries like pandas and statsmodels. I submitted the assignment, and then they wanted to assess my Golang skills.
They sent me another take-home assignment to be completed in Golang, which I submitted.
Although the instructions clearly mentioned that test cases were not required and that the task should take at most 1-2 hours, they rejected me without giving me a chance to explain my codebase. Their feedback cited missing test cases, lack of database indexes, unreadable code, and inadequate comments—even though I went beyond their instructions by adding database indexes and using clean architecture on my own initiative.
Overall, it felt like a total waste of time.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Syndio
Interview
I went through an extensive interview process at Syndio, which included a take-home test, and a full 8 hour day of interviews. While I felt positive about the take home test and most of the interviews, I encountered a challenging situation with the person who would have been my manager. During our session, she asked me to make several changes to my take-home test within 10 minutes, which I found to be quite demanding given the context and because it was the last interview in the 8 hour round after I already completed the take home test. I requested to complete the changes later that day due to fatigue from the lengthy interview process, and she agreed, though somewhat reluctantly. I completed the requested changes and submitted them, but I believe this situation influenced her decision not to hire me. Reflecting on this experience, I would advise others to consider the risk that this company could waste multiple days of your life and even if you perform well, they could still not hire you.
