      Cashier/Customer Service Interview

      19 Nov 2010
      Anonymous employee
      Las Vegas, NV
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TJ, Inc. (Las Vegas, NV) in Nov 2010

      Interview

The interview process was pretty simple, I went into the store to get an application and turned it back in the same day and the cashier told me she would turn it into the store manager. I received a call about 2 weeks later for a group interview and there was 11 other applicants . We went into a small room and then the store manager and hiring manager came in the room and greeted everyone, they were very friendly and told us a little about themselves and the company . After that, everyone went around the table and told something about ourselves. The manager explained the interview would be informal and she would throw questions out there for us and anyone could answer or add on. She also asked everyone a different question like "what is good customer service to you?" "tell me a time where u gave or had good/bad customer service." "tell me a time where you didn't agree with something your boss had wanted you to do" she also made up scenario questions like "how would you deal with a customer who was angry " "how would you deal with a co worker who didn't like you?" just different scenario questions .She also had us try to sell the chairs that we were sitting in, to her. And she also had everyone go around the table and tell about different qualities that we have. When we were done answering questions she asked if anyone had any questions and then she told us she would call us the next Friday .Thursday they checked only one of my references i had listed on my application (I knew because I was actually talking to my friend on the phone when they called him ) so i thought that was a good sign. I waited till about 5 pm on Friday and called them back because they hadn't contacted me, and the manager told me to call back next week because they were still checking references. They ended up calling me back Tuesday and they called and offered me a position . 2 days later, Thursday I had orientation we introduced ourselves again filled out papers, W-4, I-9, went over questions and rules/safety procedures/theft, watched videos , got lockers ,badges, handbooks and were informed we will start hands on training next week. Out of the 11 applicants, myself and 2 others were chosen.
