I contacted TNT directly through LinkedIn and was given a lengthy phone screen a few days later, which went well. I then received regular updates from the hiring manager through LinkedIn messaging and everything seemed very positive. I was set up with the COO for an in-person interview, which took place in Indianapolis.
At first, I was a little shocked at the foyer of the business had yellow, hanging ceiling tiles and carpet that was ripped/cut in several places. I was greeted and told that I was overdressed (tailored suit). During the interview, I was told the location was not doing well and would sometimes intentionally not pay its supplier invoices when business was slow. I was then told that a previous employer gave me a great recommendation and I asked who the person was, since I had not spoken with anyone since leaving the company several years ago. The interviewer seemed to stop caring about the conversation after that and ended the meeting.
I then received a message from the hiring manager that I would hear back in about a week when the COO got back from vacation. I never heard a thing from anyone and it was not until about a month later I noticed on LinkedIn that someone with that job title just started with the company at the same location I applied at.
