      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      2 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Talend

      Interview

Waste of time interview process. Spent over two months interviewing for a couple different support positions at Talend, had great interviews, did well on technical exams despite them always having multiple issues or errors their side during the exams, and ended up not getting an offer. While that is fine, the amount of time wasted, where I would get an email every week saying they are "very close" to making a decision in the following week, and then having them do the same thing the next week, repeatedly, was ridiculous. I understand COVID has slowed things down but they were completely unprofessional. Also the recruiter unfortunately indicated I was a finalist and they were enthusiastic about me and then at the last minute pulled back because they obviously found someone else. I ended up getting a position somewhere else a day after, so no hard feelings, but just want to warn anybody about their dysfunctional process.

Thank you for your recent review, and congratulations on your new role. As a company, we value candidates that go through our process, and in the ever changing world of the tech market and skills that we require for roles, quite often there are multiple finalists in our processes that we actively engage with on future roles. We have made a number of hires where candidates were finalists for other roles (sometimes even years before), and recently, we quickly moved to offer with a previous candidate without going through the process again. Nurturing great talent for the future is the key to any success. We learn constantly and hope that maybe our paths will cross again. We wish you all the success.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Talend (Philadelphia, PA) in Nov 2022

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn. We set up an initial screening call which basically covered introductions, background experience and evaluation for my suitability for the role. The following day I got an email to choose a date for an online assessment. I did the assessment online 2 days later that covered java installation and configuration on a Windows servers and troubleshooting basic installation, networking, SQL, and email communication. A day later I was invited to select a date for an interview with about 4 managers from in the US. This session was a bit thorough but fun and mostly covered support topics and some role playing to evaluate my ability to handle support requests. A day later I got another email to set up a call with the recruiter who informed me I passed and got the job and gate me details of the offer, which I accepted.
