      Failure Analysis Engineer Interview

      16 Mar 2026
      Anonymous employee
      Texas City, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Tesla (Texas City, TX)

      Interview

During the interview, I encountered a series of challenging technical questions that primarily focused on the concept of impact in mechanical systems. To effectively respond to these inquiries, it would be beneficial to delve into various mechanical engineering textbooks that cover the principles of dynamics and material science. Additionally, the atmosphere during the interview was quite unprofessional, as the interviewers displayed a level of rudeness that added to the stress of the situation. Their dismissive attitude made it difficult to engage in a constructive dialogue.

      Interview

Went through the typical recruiter, hiring manager, loop interview porcess. Got the verbal offer and waited for 5 months. Each time they told me that the position needs to go through the headcount reapporoval at the VP level. Shared the benefits package etc the business day after. I finally didnot get the promised written offer. The interview went smoothly. The case studies were presented and then was asked about the possible characterization tools needed to identify the failure and the failure mode.

      Question 1

Failure mode identification and what materials characterization tool one would use to identify the root cause.
