Unfortunately, the interaction left me feeling quite disappointed. The recruiter asked me only one question: "Talk about your previous experiences." While I understand this is a common opening, I was expecting a more engaging discussion or at least a deeper exploration of how my skills and experiences aligned with the role. Instead, the recruiter appeared disengaged and uninterested throughout the conversation, which was disheartening.
At the end of the meeting, I was given an opportunity to ask questions, but it felt as though the decision about my application had already been made (and two days later, I received a rejection email).
While I respect the company’s decision, I feel the process did not give me a fair chance to demonstrate the full extent of my qualifications. My current role is closely aligned with the job specification, and I had relevant insights to share that were not explored.
Reading the recruiter’s facial expressions during the call, it seemed as though their decision might have been made within moments of our connection. This left me questioning whether unconscious biases, such as age or my foreign accent, may have influenced the outcome.
I believe every candidate deserves a fair and transparent evaluation process. My experience suggests room for improvement in ensuring interviews are conducted with professionalism and an open mind. As someone who values constructive feedback, I hope this review can encourage better practices moving forward.
