I had a phone screening a little while ago for an entry-level donor relations position. From what I understand, the call was originally supposed to be with someone who worked in this department but was with someone from HR instead. The interviewer was quite awkward, and all of the questions had two or three parts to them, but she would pause after one and I would start answering, only for her to continue the question so I had interrupted her. She also knew next to nothing about the job beyond seemingly browsing the listing, so I didn’t know anything about the role or responsibilities when answering. I was also asked what challenges I expected from this position, which again I had no context to answer with. Each answer I gave was followed by almost a minute of the interviewer typing, breaking any flow or conversation I hoped to build. Despite preparing a list of questions I had about the position and company, she couldn’t answer anything even relating to the department I interviewed for, so it ended quickly thereafter. The questions were all straightforward, but without any information outside of the job listing it was very difficult to align my experiences with the qualities they were looking for.
