      Underwriting Trainee Interview

      3 Jan 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at The Hartford in Jan 2018

      Interview

The process was drawn out. When you first apply there is a test for you to complete. If you make it pass the test you will have a phone screen with the HR department. They ask what you know about underwriting, why you want to join The Hartford, and what qualifies you for the role. After that I waited a month or so before being invited to interview in person. The in person interview involves meeting with multiple managers.

      Underwriting Trainee Interview

      4 Dec 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Hartford in Nov 2025

      Interview

Small Business Underwriting Trainee I'm an internal candidate with experience in underwriting with another company. When I changed jobs to work for The Hartford, underwriting wasn't available. I had a screening with a recruiter and 2 panel interviews. The experience was terrible all around. Every interview was rushed with rapid fire questions, the recruiter purposely stated he was skipping information in our screening, and ultimately I was not offered the job as they stated I didn't do extra-curricular work by working with the underwriting department prior to my interview - this was not disclosed at any point in the interview process not listed on the job description. In addition, The Hartford has issues with saying one thing and then not really meaning it. Nevermind, had I been an external candidate, this wouldn't have been expected. In all of my interviews, I was told that I was more qualified than the typical individual they end up hiring. In the feedback, I was informed I lacked "analytical skills" even though I have certifications in Data Analytics and hold an analytical position within the company already. Overall, I'm glad I didn't get the position and will not be applying for the position again. This is an unorganized department with no comprehension of their candidates skills even though they have candidate resumes open during interviews.
