      Senior Security Engineer Interview

      16 May 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at The Stepstone Group (London, England) in May 2018

      Interview

Two stages: HR stage & then a technical stage. The whole proccess was VERY quick I have to say, and I have to question that. I was openly told by the HR person, that they were having problems recruting for this role and that they were struggling to find the right people. The specification had been re-written several times. HR person had no idea about security issues at all, and frankly was just reading from the speicifcaiton sheet. When speaking with him, I could have told him anything and he would have accepted it at face value. When I asked him about the role in more detail, was clueless. Was the role shift based? Urrrrrhhhhhh................. When I was offered an interview, I was not given any brefiing about what to expect. This interview was connected to a application online, which itself worked fine and well. Technical interview was standard: Hiring manager was VERY chatty, and would not allow me to add comments or questions to his discussion. Over video link, he held his finger to his lips when I was talking, giving the impression "shut up!". On balance, not a good interview; in part I feel that this was me applying for the role without clearly reading it and not asking hte right questions of the HR Recruiter, but also in part because of the two people conducting the interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Standard technical questions: I couldn't awnser them mainly due to the fact that I had never used the technology that they were looking for! Very frustrating. The interviewers asked my age very early on in the interview, and then laughed and joked about it when I told them.
