Review for Thermotron Industries
I am a 21-year veteran who started the interview process with Thermotron Industries in Holland, Michigan, in February. My initial interview with Alan and Tamara was promising; it lasted about two hours, during which they expressed keen interest in my HVAC and leadership background. However, that positive experience quickly deteriorated.
After the interview, I was required to fill out an extensive application detailing my entire career from boot camp to 2022, along with providing three strong references, including an active-duty Navy Captain. My references were vetted, and my application was sent to the owner, Brian, who overlooked it for a week without any communication.
When Brian finally called, he didn’t discuss the job I had interviewed for at all. Instead, he focused on my military background and asked unrelated questions about a friend of his in the Marines. He then pitched me a recruiter position in HR, which was not what I had applied for. I asked for a night to think it over and called back the next day, but he claimed he was in a meeting and would return my call—he never did.
After several attempts to reach him, he seemed clueless about our previous discussions and continued to make excuses. It became clear that the owner is not up to date with modern hiring practices. The phone interview consisted of meaningless jargon rather than relevant conversation about the position I sought.
As of now, it is April, and despite my efforts, I learned that the owner has final say in hiring decisions, which rendered my time and qualifications seemingly worthless. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and disheartening.
Veterans beware: your time and skills may not be valued at Thermotron. This entire process has been a significant waste of time and effort, and I would not recommend pursuing opportunities here. The lack of professionalism and respect for candidates is evident, and I hope others can avoid the same disappointment.
