      UI/User Experience Designer Interview

      21 May 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ThousandEyes in Apr 2017

      Interview

Thanks to Glassdoor I already knew there was a good chance I could potentially have a bad experience with ThousandEyes (interview reviews here have swayed in the negative between 51-65% on average for the last 5 years), and sadly mine did indeed turn out that way. The early stages were fine; screening by Steven, then interview with the CTO, followed by a coding/design skills test which applicants are given a week to complete. Just like everyone else who has ever done a coding/design test, you're not paid for all the hours and hard work that you put into it, and often; if you're solving an existing problem that the company is currently facing, then you're basically providing them with solutions for free (you can scroll through Glassdoor to read previous interview reviews on this process from the company). I completed the challenge on time and submitted it, then I sent a follow up email a week later just to check that everything was ok, but I was completely ghosted. Not even an auto-generated response to acknowledge it... it was just cold silence. It's one thing to be ignored after you've set aside time preparing for one or more phone interviews (which is still disrespectful), but it's definitely more frustrating when you've already done the technical skills test. In my opinion, ghosting is one of the rudest and most infuriating things in the recruitment industry. Sometimes I even see posts by ThousandEyes trying to address negative reviews, apologizing and noting that they're trying to improve their HR processes; going so far as promising that everyone who has completed a technical skills test will get a timely response. In my experience, I'm sad to say I have not seen any improvement. If this also happens to you, then you have been warned. The ghosting continues...

      Question 1

Do you know how to produce mock ups? You can submit it any way you like (low-fidelity/high-fidelity) but it would be great if you could submit high-fidelity.

Hello, Thanks for your feedback. This was not a good experience and we hold ourselves responsible. As a startup, we are growing very quickly. As a result, we are often drinking out of a firehose and things get lost in the shuffle. Part of it is systems and part of it is human. Nonetheless, we want to own it. We want to provide feedback in a timely fashion to everyone. We regret it did not happen in this case. Thank you for keeping us honest as this helps us improve the experience for everyone.

      Interview

Contacted by the recruiter and scheduled an interview with their CTO. The CTO forgot to call me on the planned interview time. After getting touch with the recruiter again, the CTO assigned me a design challenge to help them identify issues and provide improvement ideas on their existing product. After that, the recruiter told me that they would not move forward and refused to provide any feedback from the challenge. Completely disrespectful for candidates' time!

      Interview

I applied online and received an email from a recruiter, then scheduled a phone interview with their CTO. However, I was rescheduled for several times with last-minute notices. I was assigned with a 1-week design challenge to help them identify current issues and provide some improvement ideas on their existing product--free labor. And they didn' t answer any of my specific questions. Then the similar case happened to me--after the interview and design challenge, they do not want to move forward and refused to give me any feedback.

      Interview

Phone screen with CTO, then design test, then onsite. The whole process was pretty straightforward. The questions asked were not very UX/UI focused, which confused me a bit. Asked a lot about previous experience.
