      Financial Advisor Interview

      3 Feb 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Thrivent (San Diego, CA) in Feb 2016

      Interview

Job fair, in person interview followed They want to hear that you are thinking of family and friends as clients rather than prospecting for clients elsewhere. If you show any hesitation, they will explain why it is your moral obligation to tell your family about their amazing products. My conclusion is that their sales and marketing training is not particularly valuable if they have no expectation that you can get business other than a soft target. If you want this job, you have to be ready to spend your own money for an office and all expenses (driving, office supplies, phone, internet) until you get the first commission, probably 3 to 6 months down the line. The $13 an hour they offer as a training salary is not going to begin to pay your expenses. So the question is, if you are going to be the one footing the bill for everything, why would you split the commission with them? On the personality test, you need to be arrogant. I think that turning your money over to another person requires a lot of trust. I would trust someone who is genuinely concerned about making money for me. I would not trust someone who is out to set a sales goal or who is interested primarily in getting the commissions. On this point, Thrivent and I disagree.

It was pretty casual, asked me questions more about personality than technical skills. The process took around four interviews, where I met with a singular guy at first and then with a team.
