The interview process is sloppy and disorganized. About a year ago, I was contacted by about 3 different recruiters (and or outsourced staffing agencies) about similar roles at Tiktok.
I initially chatted with the hiring manager, who told me that he was super overwhelmed and working at all hours of the day because they had to accommodate Beijing time. Also mentioned that he was so busy that he wanted to commit suicide. Huge red flag.
I then had a 45 minute talk with the recruiter who at the end asked me salary expectations. I asked what the salary band was (which is pretty standard information that recruiters should have). She said there was no band and asked what I would need. I gave a number, and she responded by saying that was a little too high but would look into what she could do.
I ended up withdrawing from the process and told them I was not interested because of these red flags. I now know a few former colleagues that now work there that it's pretty chaotic.
P.S. I still get contacted by different recruiters representing tiktok/bytedance at least once a month. Still disorganized.
