      Recruiter Interview

      11 Apr 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Torrance, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Torrance Memorial Medical Center (Torrance, CA)

      Interview

I was directed to the HR office in which I was the only person in the waiting area. I greeted the receptionist politely and she appeared busy but was friendly. We stroke up a conversation to help calm my nerves. I was given a paper application form to complete. I waited for a little bit longer and it began to be past my interview scheduled time. I understand, recruiters are busy (they actually are). I was greeted by the other recruiter who didn't look me in the eye or give me eye contact. She called my name and looked down at her paper the entire time I stood up from my seat, walked over to her, and reached out my hand to give her a handshake. I gave her a professional, firm, handshake and she outloud said "ouch", all while looking at the floor and not giving me eye contact yet. I apologized and I didn't get a response back. (My handshakes are not hard. I asked others for feedback after this incident). I entered a room and a higher executive interviewed. She was friendly. I sat in her office and she asked me a few questions only pertaining to my experience. Nothing about what drives me, what motivates me, what are my core values, who am I as a person. She was asking nitty gritty questions about how many job postings have I posted, how many people have I recruited in a week. These are all important questions but it proved they weren't looking for a right fit within their organization but only someone who could get the job done. The recruiter sat in a chair next to me and sometimes looked at me. I started to feel awkward. I was trying so hard to make a conversation about something personal, about how I found out about Torrance Memorial, and about our mutual network and the topic was quickly changed to my experience. I didn't get a verbal response back about our mutual network, just a question as the response. I started feeling like I couldn't wait for this to finish. It was quick and I realized that I wasn't the right fit because I was looking for the whole package, a great team to work with, a company that values the individual more than what they can produce and it didn't appear to be that for me. I was honestly shocked because I have heard great things about working at Torrance Memorial and it is an employer of choice. But you have to get through the interesting interviewing experience to get there.
