I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (New York, NY) in Jun 2016
Interview
I've applied to several different Trader Joe's in the past year and I seem to be unfit for all of them. I don't know if it's my lack of grocery shop/retail experience or just the fact that I plain out SUCK at interviews but it's hard. I feel like they judge you the minute they see you. I am honestly a sweetheart and going into all three interviews, I felt like they were looking me up and down and not caring about the words that come out of my mouth. They seem to make up their minds the minute they see you. I was really looking forward to working with the company because I love their products and wanted to grow my career with them but seems like I don't fit the type.
November 2015 (NY,NY): 1st interview went great! I felt like the mate really liked me and said that she would love to see me working with the company. Then when I went for the 2nd interview, I waited FOR AN HOUR. When they finally arrived, they brought me to the back of house where 4 or 5 crew members were folding boxes. I was heavily distracted by the raucous and couldn't concentrate. When the two mates asked me questions, they seemed so distracted too! They weren't listening to me, they asked me two questions and then said thank you for applying and told me to leave. Honestly, one of the mates asked what school I was currently attending and I said I was going to a GED program and two seconds later he was like "Columbia University? That's so cool! What's your major?" ????????? I obviously didn't get the job.
May 2016 (Rego Park, NY): I went in for an interview with two mates. They asked me all of the questions on the questionnaire and they seemed to really enjoy talking to me! I really thought that I got the job because they were so sweet. They didn't even call me after two weeks like they said they would. They sent out a mail to my house apologizing that I didn't get the job.
June 2016 (NY, NY): I went in for an interview at a new store and since the store wasn't open, we had to go to a diner next door. That kind of made extra nervous because I've never been to interviews as such. I wasn't the greatest during the interview and they said they'd call by Monday (today) so we'll see if I got it. I don't think I did, since I wasn't the greatest. The interviewees were sweethearts though!
The interview process was absolutely wonderful! I didn't feel stressed or nervous and it felt like I was just chatting with a friend! Trader Joes is a great company and the interview was great.
I had 3 separate interviews. 1 was over the phone. 2 were in person. I never heard anything after the third interview. I called the store about a week later and they let me know they didn’t actually have any available positions. Really felt like they wasted my time.
Very chill, asked things a lot of job interviews don't, more personal down to earth questions. Made me feel very comfortable. Professional but also cool vibes from everyone who interviewed me. Went to one interview with mates and another with the captain.
